Duxbury vs Austin Prep Recap

The fifth-place game in the Buddy Ferreira Classic took place right before the championship game, which means I got to watch Duxbury and Austin Prep square off in their last game of the season. Duxbury entered the game with a record of 11-6-4, putting them in a good spot when it comes to seeding the D1 South tournament. Austin Prep entered the game with a record of 10-6-4 and still on the radar when it comes to Super 8 selection. Let’s see how this one played one.

The first period was scoreless as both goaltenders stood on their head. The second period was different, as Duxbury was able to get on the board on a 5 on 3 powerplay with Zack Stewart getting the goal.

The third period had a lot of promise as both teams entered the ice looking to have a positive final 15 minutes of their regular season. Right off the start of the period Duxbury added to their lead off an offensive zone faceoff. Duxbury won the draw and Drake Hadley tipped in a shot from Ben Luscko as Duxbury doubled their lead. It didn’t take long for Duxbury to get back on the scoreboard as another shot from Luscko deflected off Will Nolan’s stick and into the back of the net, making the Duxbury lead 3-0. Steve Pisani was brilliant in goal like always and Duxbury as they held on for the 3-0 shutout win to cap off their season. The loss nearly eliminated Austin Prep from Super 8 discussions as they look to gear up for the D1 North tournament.
