Joey McD's February 13th Rankings

The season is winding down as the rankings are starting to predict Super 8 seedings. A lot of content will be coming as I will be breaking down playoff scenarios and possibilities. Check it out:
Arlington (1) – Arlington is still alive in the top spot this week, something that few teams have been able to do in consecutive weeks. They still only have one loss and downed both Hingham and Winchester last week.

BC High (2) – The Eagles are still in the second spot this week after defeating Tewskbury in a one-goal game. They have the Buddy Ferreira Classic coming up with their first game being against Falmouth.

Xaverian (4) – Xaverian is on a three-game winning streak and are coming off of a 9-2 victory over Bishop Hendricken. They have two games left on the year, both teams featured in the rankings this week.

Pope Francis (7) – It has been a steady climb this year for Pope Francis since they started slow. They most recently downed Austin Prep and face Catholic Memorial before they host the Cardinal Classic.

St. John’s Prep (8) – Prep is riding a 9-game unbeaten streak as they continue to hang in the top quarter of the rankings. They finish their season against Needham and Billerica.

Framingham (9) – Framingham downed Hingham in their most recent game, giving their resume a boost before they try to get into the Super 8. They still have four games left with a couple top contenders coming up.

Burlington (11) – Burlington has been one of the top public-school teams in the state this year and proved it with a big win over Barnstable in their last game.

Canton (3) – It happened. Canton lost and snapped their 43-game unbeaten streak. The loss to Lincoln-Sudbury hurts their Super 8 chances, but the loss isn’t devastating as they definitely still have a shot.

Hingham (6) – The up and down season continues for Hingham, as they lost their most recent game to Framingham. They have three games left, all in the Buddy Ferreira Classic.

Catholic Memorial (5) – Every time that CM creeps into the top 5 it seems like they fall the next week. They were shutout in their most recent game against St. John’s (S). They have three games remaining, and they will need to have a strong end to the year to get into the Super 8.

St. Mary’s Lynn (10) – St. Mary’s downed Franklin in their last game. They have three games left as they sit as a bubble Super 8 team.

Natick (18) – Natick is scorching hot heading into the end of the season. With a record of 12-2-4, Natick is very alive in Super 8 discussions.

Austin Prep (13) – Austin Prep does not have a Super 8 worthy record at the moment, but they have the Buddy Ferreira Classic coming up that has great potential to slingshot them into the discussion with a solid performance.

Melrose (16) – Melrose has not lost a game since January 18th and have a massive game coming up against Burlington. They have been on a steady climb this year and are getting hot at the right time.

Malden Catholic (19) – With their schedule, Malden Catholic will always have a lot of opportunity to carve a good resume. They are 6-8-3, as they sit on the outside of the playoff picture. They are coming off of a win over Central Catholic and have Catholic Memorial next.

Braintree (12) – Braintree has put together a solid season as they are 11-4-2 with three games left. They are heading into a massive matchup with Canton.

Reading (15) – After a big win over Belmont, Reading is heading into the Buddy Ferreira Classic with hopes of improving their playoff seeding in the D1 North tournament.

Hopkinton (NR) – With a record of 16-1-0, Hopkinton will be a heavy favorite heading into the D3 tournament. The D3 tournament will be a tough task, as six teams have less than three losses.

Shrewsbury (14) – Shrewsbury suffered a setback against Bishop Fenwick. They still have one of the best records in D1 hockey and should be excited for what the playoffs have in store for them.

Central Catholic (17) – Central is coming off of a loss to Malden Catholic as they have two games left. They have qualified for playoffs and their hard schedule should make them a solid playoff team.

Best of the rest: Marshfield, Waltham, Duxbury, Hanover, King Philip
