Joey McD's January 22 Top 20

The Rankings are in as we are almost past the halfway point of the season! Check it out:

St Mary’s Lynn (1) – St. Mary’s had a slip up against Austin Prep that resulted in their first loss of the season. Thankfully for them, Xaverian also lost this past week, leaving St. Mary’s as the top ranked team.

Xaverian (2) – Xaverian has a hard time with St. John’s Prep, as the Eagles handed Xaverian their second loss of the season, both to St. John’s Prep. This shouldn’t be a big set back for Xaverian, unless they find Prep in the playoffs.

Catholic Memorial (4) – The Knights had two ties this past week against Hingham and Xaverian. They are sill making their climb from outside the rankings all the way into the top five, can they go any higher?

Canton (6) – Canton still is unbeaten on the season. They sit at 10-0-2 and continue their dominant streak. They have only allowed 15 goals in 12 games, a recipe for great success.

BC High (5) – The Eagles stay at five this week after a loss to Pope Francis and a win over Winchester. The Eagles are no lock for the Super 8 just yet, so they will need to play well down the stretch.

St. John’s Prep (8) – Prep is moving up this week after another win over Xaverian and a tie with Reading. Prep is definitely a good candidate for the super 8 so far, but they will need to keep winning to get in.

Arlington (7) – Arlington still sits with only one loss on the season. They still lack the signature wins that other teams have, but they have plenty of opportunity for that in the second half of their schedule.

Burlington (3) – Burlington finally lost a game after 10 wins in a row. With Malden Catholic getting the best of them, Burlington settles back into a pack of a bunch teams fighting for a top 10 spot in the rankings.

Pope Francis (10) – The Cardinals are up one spot after a win over BC High and a tie to Arlington. Their record may not be a true assessment of how good Pope Francis is this year.

Austin Prep (12) – Austin Prep was recently hit with a massive flu bug that left them without 8 of their regular skaters in a loss to St. John’s (S). Hopefully Austin Prep can get healthy and back to their winning ways.

Framingham (9) – The Flyers have wins over Weymouth and Brookline since their loss to Shrewsbury.

Hingham (16) – Hingham has four losses, but their extremely tough schedule is keeping them high in the rankings. They have two ties in a row to Catholic Memorial and St. Mary’s Lynn.

Hopkinton (13) – The only division three team in the rankings is Hopkinton. They sit with a perfect 10-0-0 record at their halfway point.

St. John’s Shrewsbury (15) – St. Johns got above the 0.500 mark with their most recent win over Austin Prep. They continue to battle their tough schedule as they play Pope Francis next.

Central Catholic (11) – Central is 0-2 in their past two games with losses to Westford Academy and Xaverian. They will look to get back to their winning ways against Billerica on the 25th.

Duxbury (14) – The Dragons won the annual Green Cup in a shootout over Marshfield. The Dragons only have two losses on the season, which puts them in a good situation when it comes to Super 8 discussion.

Braintree (17) – Braintree is coming off of a good 3-1 win over Weymouth as they enter their matchup with Milton.

Reading (NR) – Reading has been bouncing in and out of the rankings all season. They are coming off of a tie against St. John’s Prep as they prepare for their game against Lexington.

Barnstable (18) – Barnstable tied Falmouth in a game that had an awesome atmosphere. This is the type of game that these two can expect in the playoffs, which will help both teams moving forward.

Shrewsbury (NR) – Shrewsbury is in their second year as a division one team and they are making a solid push towards the tournament. They only have two losses and even have a win over Framingham.

Best of the rest: Plymouth North, Falmouth, Natick, Archbishop Williams, Marshfield
