Joey McD's January 8th Top 20

The rankings are in! Check out who moved this week:

BC High (1) – The Eagles continue to give me no choice but to put them at number one each week. They beat a very good Framingham team this week and did so by outshooting the Flyers by a large margin.

St Mary’s Lynn (3) – Still unbeaten are the Spartans. They defeated Andover this past week 4-1 to improve their record to 6-0-1. They face Newburyport next on January 8th.

Framingham (2) - A tough loss to top ranked BC High did not upset the Flyers too much as they moved on to defeat Braintree 6-2 a few days later. Jake Handy has been incredible for the Flyers so far.

Xaverian (4) – Xaverian stays put at number four this week after defeating Needham by an impressive score of 8-0. They move on to play Malden Catholic on January 8th.

Canton (5) – Still no movement for the Bulldogs yet. They continued their crazy un-beaten steak as they squeezed by Attleboro 1-0 on January 4th. Next up for them is Mansfield, another division one opponent on their schedule.

Arlington (8) – The Spyponders do not have the best record, but they have a very talented roster. They are coming off of a tie with Woburn and their next game is against Lexington.

Catholic Memorial (20) – Catholic Memorial is making a massive jump this week. I had a feeling that this team would make a jump at some point after their slow start. They have BC High up next on January 8th.

Burlington (13) – Burlington continues to be red hot. They have rattled off six wins in a row during this impressive streak and have Stoneham up next.

Duxbury (9) - Duxbury got back in the win column as they defeated Silver Lake 5-1 on January 4th. They have Plymouth North up next, who is still undefeated in division 2 south.

Austin Prep (12) – Austin Prep is up two spots after an impressive three game swing. They have wins over Hingham and Central Catholic in that span as well as a tie to Bishop Fenwick.

Central Catholic (10) – Central’s hot streak slowed down slightly as of late, but managed to get a good win over Hingham in their most recent game. They face a good Waltham team in their next game.

St. John’s Prep (6) – The Eagles are nearly impossible to judge so far this year. They have been very high in the rankings and they have also been very low. They drop six places this week after a shutout loss to Catholic Memorial. I think Prep will balance into the top half of the rankings before the season is over.

Hingham (7) – Hingham has sustained a surprising slip in the rankings. In their last five games they have 2 wins and 3 losses. However, their most recent game was a win over a good Braintree team.

Pope Francis (17) – Pope Francis is a team similar to Catholic Memorial. In this I mean that they should be able to figure out their early season struggles in time to sneak into the Super 8. They are 3-2 in their last five and are coming off of a big win over Bishop Hendricken.

Bishop Fenwick (16) – After a hot start, Fenwick has slowed down a little bit. They are 1-1-1 in their past three games with a tie against Austin Prep and a win over Bishop Feehan.

Marshfield (18) – The Rams bounced back from their two-game losing streak by beating Whitman-Hanson 3-1. They move on to play St. Johns (S) in their next game.

Braintree (11) – Braintree has recently fallen victim to playing a hard schedule. They have two losses in a row at the hands of Hingham and Framingham. They will look to get back into the win column in their next game against a good Walpole team.

Reading (15) – Reading is struggling recently with three losses in their past four games. I have faith that they are good enough to hang onto a ranked spot, but they will need to start winning games. Their next contest is against Woburn.

Barnstable (NR) – Barnstable is back in the rankings this week after rattling off three wins in a row. They have a big test in their next game against Archbishop Williams, another bubble team.

St. John’s Shrewsbury (14) – St John’s Shrewsbury dropped six spots this week after a loss to Archbishop Williams and a tie to Shrewsbury. They will look to begin to climb up the rankings again as they play Pope Francis next.

Best of the rest: Malden Catholic, Archbishop Williams, Billerica, King Phillip, Falmouth
