Joey McD's Jan 2nd Top 20

We are into the New Year and the season is in full swing. The holiday tournaments are over and it is time to take a look at who is in the top 20 to start the year.

BC High (1) – The Eagles survived a scare from St. Johns Prep as BC High won the first round of the Pete Frates Winter classic in a shootout. They moved on to defeat Central Catholic in the championship.

Framingham (4) – Framingham tied both of their games in the My Hockey Live Cup on their way to winning it all in a shootout over Xaverian. They are a well-coached team with a lot of skill. Their next game is against BC High.

St. Mary’s Lynn (6) - The Spartans still do not have a loss on the year as they enter the new year. They have 3 wins in a row over ranked opponents and face Andover in their next contest.

Xaverian (3) – Xaverian lost the My Hockey Live Cup in a shootout to Framingham. They looked to bounce back against St. Johns Prep, but lost 3-0. Next up for them is Needham.

Canton (5) – Well, Canton finally proved they can compete with a Super 8 caliber team with their recent tie against Duxbury. They trailed by two with a few minutes left, but managed the impressive comeback. It will be hard to move Canton out of the top 5 until they lose a game.

St. John’s Prep (18) – The Eagles have been rolling ever since they lost by 8 goals in their opener to Hingham. In their last three games, they have beaten two ranked teams and tied BC High, the top ranked team in the state.

Hingham (2) – Hingham has had a minor setback since being ranked second last week. They lost both games in the Christie Serino Christmas Classic, but bounced back with a win over Marshfield in their last game.

Arlington (8) – Arlington is staying at 8 this week. They defeated Reading on New Year’s Eve 3-0 and have Woburn up next.

Duxbury (9) - Duxbury had Canton on the verge of their first loss in the past two seasons until the Bulldogs managed a third period comeback. Duxbury has Silver Lake up next.

Central Catholic (14) – Central Catholic has been climbing the rankings every week this season as now they get their first shot at the top 10. They finished second in the Pete Frates Winter Classic after falling to BC High in the championship.

Braintree (12) – Braintree has defeated Lincoln-Sudbury and Billerica back to back. They play second ranked Framingham next.

Austin Prep (15) – Austin Prep has two impressive wins in a row as they have defeated Central Catholic and Hingham back to back. They have Bishop Fenwick up next on their schedule.

Burlington (16) – Since their opening night loss to Woburn, Burlington has five wins in a row, their most recent being over Wakefield. They have Wilmington up next.

St. John’s (S) (20) – St. John’s Shrewsbury is up 6 spots since last week. They finished third in the My Hockey Live Cup after defeating Marshfield in the third place game. They have Archbishop Williams up next.

Reading (17) – Reading has had an up and down season so far. Their record is not the best, but they have competed well against some good teams. Their next game is against Winchester.

Bishop Fenwick (10) - Fenwick had a tough go in the Catholic Memorial Christmas Tournament, recording two losses and a win. They have Austin Prep up next.

Pope Francis (7) – Pope Francis is falling down the rankings at an alarming rate. They lost both games in the Pete Frates Winter Classic, both by one goal. They have Bishop Hendricken up next.

Marshfield (11) – The Rams were undefeated heading into the My Hockey Live Cup, but since then the are 0-2-1. They will look to get back to their winning ways against Whitman-Hanson.

Malden Catholic (NR) – Malden Catholic make their first appearance on the rankings this week. They finished second in the Christie Serino Christmas Classic and have BC High up next on their schedule.

Catholic Memorial (NR) – Catholic Memorial sneaks back into the top 20 this week. They are starting to get back to their winning ways after their 3-1 win over Needham. I am confident that they will be higher next week.

Best of the rest: Barnstable, Archbishop Williams, Natick, Walpole, Falmouth
